Physical analysis of radiation dose distribution by using cerrobend compensator-based IMRT in linac 6 MV

Abstract

The using of Cerrobend compensator-based Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) has been done to investigate the characteristic and analyze the radiation dose distribution that resulted. Compensator-based IMRT is one way of implementing IMRT which is simple and can be applied to various types of radiotherapy unit such as Cobalt60 machine and also Linac. Cerrobend characterization is done by measuring the linear attenuation coefficient (at Linac 6 MV. Furthermore, the manufacture compensator Cerrobend made in accordance with the desired design. Then measuring the radiation dose distribution generated using gafromic film. Further the analysis of the distribution of radiation dose and calculate the value Homogeneity Index (HI) and Conformity Index (CI) was done. The value of the linear attenuation coefficient (Cerrobend using 6 MV Linac is 0,41 cm?1. Please also note that the use made of Cerrobend compensator-based IMRT can improve skin sparing beneficial effects for patients. In addition this Cerrobend compensator-based IMRT can also improve skin sparing beneficial effects for patients. The using of Cerrobend compensator-based IMRT that provides good accuracy in the calculation of the radiation dose that is having a thickness ?5 mm. Homogeneity index (HI) and Conformity Index (CI) on the use of compensator-based IMRT produce varying values, namely HI from 0,13 to 0,89 and CI from 0,12 to 0,97. That varying values are influenced by not only the thickness but also the design of the compensators. © 2017 American Scientific Publishers All rights reserved.
