Abstract

Treatment for children illness at community health centers requires proper clinical decisions according to specific procedure because it concerns their safety. There is a lot of information in the procedure that must be read and understood by health professionals. However, with limited time and human resource, adherence to procedure and precision in assessment are sometimes lacking. So far, treatment guidelines for children illness is still used manually, and less precise assessment, and hence, therapy in several cases. Otherwise, available data of treatment for children illness have not been used for spatial monitoring of diseases in the service area. This paper proposes the uses of an information system that works online using web-based rule-based system algorithm. Input of this system are identification data of symptoms gathered by health professional. These data were sent to the web-server and processed by the rule-based algorithm to provide clinical decision. Results showed that the rule-based system for childhood illness management improve assessment precision for treatment and therapy, and it shortened service time. Moreover, the system developed is also capable of monitoring spatial distribution of diseases in the service area. Integrated analysis of both online rule-based data and spatial data provides accurate, fast, and informative clinical decision for proper policy regarding health strategies in the service area. © 2019 IEEE.
