This September 2022, 5 students afrom the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK), and 1 stundent from Faculty of Engineering (FT) of Universitas Diponegoro, had the opportunity to join student exchange at the Korean Maritime and Ocean University, in Busan, South Korea, which is the hometown of Jimin & Jungkook, members of the worldwide k-pop group, BTS. The five FPIK students are Khairunnisa, Erin Karissa, and Sastra Jendra Hayuningrat from the Marine Science Undergraduate Program, Dewi Masitoh from the Aquaculture Study Program, and Jihan Nabila from the Fisheries Technology Study Program. Meanwhile, the student of the Faculty of Engineering is Serliana Yulianti from the S1-Naval Engineering Study Program.

This student exchange activity is a collaboration between FPIK-UNDIP and the Office of International Affairs of KMOU, and is coordinated by Dr. Dwi Haryanti from the International Office of FPIK. Student exchange is carried out for 1 semester (4 months of active study period in total), in the fall-semester from September to December 2022. This activity is funded by KMOU, NIIED, Global Korean Scholarship, and WCU Universitas Diponegoro. The courses taken by the students include Functional Foods, Marine Food Resource Practice, Marine Chemical Ecology, and Molecular Microbiological Genetic Engineering Laboratory for FPIK students, as well as Maritime Shipping Logistics, Navigational Instruments and Introduction to Naval Architecture for FT students.

In addition to new experiences in maritime science-related lessons, the six students also had the opportunity to learn various things about South Korea through Basic Korean Language classes, field trips and culture classes.
