Lecturers from the Oceanography Study Program (Dr. Anindya Wirasatria & Dr. Dwi Haryo Ismunarti) and Marine Science Undergraduate Program (Dr. Dwi Haryanti) at Diponegoro University is collaborating with Tohoku University (Japan), University of The Philippines (Philippines), and University of The Ryukyus (Japan) in the E-Asia Joint Research Program. In addition to universities in Japan and Philippines, this research collaboration also involves researchers and students from research and educational institutions in Indonesia and abroad such as Srinakharinwirot University (Thailand), Philippine Coral Bleaching Watch, BRIN, ITB, and ecotourism activists in Bali.

The collaboration program chaired by Dr. Anindya Wirasatria from the Oceanography Study Program will run from 2022 to 2024, and is a program funded by the governments of the three countries. This research collaboration program aims to investigate the marine heat wave phenomenon in the Pacific Ocean. The results of this study are expected to increase understanding of the effects of climate change on marine ecosystems, therefore, strategies to deal with climate change can be well planned.
