Welcoming the end of online lectures in the first half of 2022, on May 21st, students of the Marine Science Undergraduate Program, Universitas Diponegoro did field practice for the new class, ‘Advanced Coral Reef Science’ (ACRS). On this occasion, as many as 32 students had direct experience in Sambangan Island, Karimunjawa, to learn the processes and methods for coral reef restoration, such as microfragmentation, and coral reef monitoring by snorkeling.
In addition, ACRS class participants also contributed to adopting coral babies to succeed the Coral Adopt for 5000 Coral Seeds program which was initiated by the local managers of Sambangan Island from PT Pura Indonesia. Activities carried out including installing coral fragments on the dome framework, and planting the dome at the coral garden site to restore reef points that were damaged. By implementing strict health and safety procedures, all activities could run smoothly.
Where else can you go for a fun trip while doing conservation? 😉
