Abstract

The Automated prediction of reorder point (ROP) in a vendor management inventory (VMI) system using RFID sensor has been developed and analyzed. This system is necessary to estimate the required amount of inventory in the warehouse, report the inventory availability, and give information of out of stock items so that a high economic efficiency is obtained. Each data of incoming and outgoing product is labeled by RFID tags and read by the RFID reader. Acquired data are stored on a client computer database consisting of; time of the transaction, codes of product, types of product, number of product and identification status. Whenever there is a change over the stock, the Reorder Point (ROP) of the product that should be added is calculated. Fuzzy time series has been used to predict the need of product in the next period. The prediction can be set according to the time period required. This research has developed an information system to calculate the value of ROP of each product. The resulting predictions for ROP values were tested with the Average Forecasting Error Rate (AFER) method and have an average error of 7.13%. This research shows that RFID can be used to automatically predict a vendor management inventory. The use of RFID sensor is capable of executing VMI calculation in the order of 2.01 seconds with a prediction time of 4.62 seconds. © 2017 American Scientific Publishers. All rights reserved.
