The potential of coastal and marine resources is not only in the form of underwater biota but also other organisms that grow and live in the vicinity, including land plants. One of the potentials of the Mosquito Island area in Karimunjawa is coconut trees. The use of coconut that has been known by local people is only as a cooking ingredient and raw material for making coconut oil. Both of these uses are considered not to have high economic value that can increase the level of community welfare on Mosquito Island. The coconut oil produced by the people of this island can be diversified into organic soap with the addition of other ingredients so that it is able to produce beauty products that are currently trending.
Based on this initial idea, the Community Service team of the Department of Marine Science took the initiative to carry out service activities in the form of training in making organic soap made from coconut oil. This service activity was initially targeted for the community on Mosquito Island, Karimunjawa. However, the high number of Covid-19 cases in Central Java made people feel worried about the arrival of the service team from Semarang. This forced the service team to conduct online training using ZOOM. The training was conducted on June 12, 2021, led by Dr. Mada Triandala Sibero and Dr. Dwi Haryanti. The training was attended by 20 participants consisting of the general public and students. Product manufacturing training documentation as well as the final product is shown in the following figure.
